char.gy in Richmond & Wandsworth
char.gy has been appointed by Richmond and Wandsworth Councils to operate and maintain around 950 on-street EV charge points across both boroughs, previously managed by ubitricity.
We are now in the final stage of a three-phase transition, which will see a further 315 charge points move onto the char.gy network. This phase began in December 2025 and is expected to be completed by February 2026. You can view the charge points included in this phase using the link below.

Once the transition is complete, these charge points will operate under char.gy’s standard tariff, outlined below.
We recognise that some drivers were previously paying a historic rate of 24p/kWh. This price was linked to an earlier contract that has now ended and no longer reflects current market conditions. In November 2025, ahead of the move to char.gy’s network, ubitricity updated its pricing to a flat day-and-night rate of 54p/kWh.

Our Pricing
To keep charging smooth and secure, we now place a temporary £25 pre-authorisation on your payment card when you start a charging session (including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and saved cards). This isn't a charge - it simply confirms your card before charging begins.
After your session, you'll only pay for the energy you used. Any unused amount is automatically released and typically returned to your card within 3-5 days (up to 10, depending on your bank). If your session exceeds £25, an additional £25 pre-authorisation will be applied so charging can continue.

- Keep sessions starting smoothly and securely
- Prevent payment delays or card errors
- Maintain a reliable network when you need it most
