char.gy is proud to announce its certification as a B Corporation. This achievement places char.gy among a growing community of companies across diverse industries, redefining success in business by balancing purpose and profit.
Certified by B Lab, the nonprofit behind the global B Corp movement, char.gy has met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This certification underscores char.gy’s commitment to objectives that extend beyond shareholder profit, solidifying its role as a purpose-driven organisation.
char.gy’s mission is to deliver society’s preferred EV charging network, accelerating the shift to sustainable transport. By 2030, char.gy aims to make EV use easy and convenient for over one million drivers through the delivery and operation of a reliable public charging service.
John, CEO of char.gy, shared his excitement about this milestone, stating:
“We’re thrilled that char.gy has achieved B Corp certification with a score of 100.2, meaningfully above the 80-point threshold. This milestone is only the beginning - being a B Corp means committing to continuous improvements, with recertification required every three years. As part of the process, we’ve also updated our Articles of Association, formally embedding char.gy’s dedication to goals beyond shareholder profit. This change ensures that our commitment to positive impact and sustainable growth will continue to guide us far into the future.”
With surface transport responsible for nearly a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions in the UK - and as the largest single contributor to emissions nationwide - char.gy plays a critical role in helping drivers reduce vehicle-related emissions and tackle climate change. char.gy’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability was instrumental in achieving its B Corp certification. This is demonstrated by their extensive network of over 3,600 charge points, all powered by 100% renewable energy, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs).
Emma Walford, Founding Partner of Perigon Partners, added:
“In supporting char.gy with its sustainability strategy, it’s been clear to me how deep-rooted the team’s commitment is to making a measurable and lasting positive impact on society. Not just in what they do but in how they do it. Seeing them make real-world changes -such as manufacturing decisions to reduce embodied carbon - has been hugely energising and I’m thrilled that our hard work together has resulted in their well-deserved B Corp certification.”
Using the B Corp framework, char.gy has further accelerated its efforts to create an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible business model. This included initiatives to measure and reduce emissions across its entire value chain, with a target to halve emissions intensity per charge point by 2030 from a 2023 baseline.
Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, commented: “We are delighted to welcome char.gy to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how businesses operate and believe business really can be a force for good. Welcoming char.gy is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support char.gy to drive change.”
Beyond their value chain commitments, char.gy has implemented a comprehensive approach to prioritise quality and impact at every level, upholding high standards with its employees, customers, and the communities it serves.
Recognised as a Great Place to Work in 2024, char.gy has introduced a range of industry-leading benefits and policies to foster an inclusive, diverse, and supportive workplace as the company continues to grow. In addition, following comprehensive ISO certifications achieved this year, char.gy has set ambitious goals to enhance customer satisfaction and increase driver engagement.
However, char.gy’s commitment goes beyond service provision, with the company dedicated to making a tangible, positive impact on the communities it serves. Building on existing programs, char.gy is developing an extensive social value strategy aimed at delivering meaningful benefits to local communities.
A detailed breakdown of char.gy’s scores across environmental impact, governance, workers, community, and customer-focused criteria is available on its public profile in the B Corp directory.
