We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Liverpool City Council to install 300 new on-street EV charge points. This expansion will more than double Liverpool’s existing network, bringing the total to 670.

By expanding on-street EV charging in Liverpool, we're ensuring that residents never walk alone and are truly supported in their transition to electric vehicles. This isn't just about infrastructure; it's about fostering a reliable network, a collective journey where every EV driver knows they have accessible charging, right in their neighborhood. It's about empowering Liverpool to embrace a greener future, together, ensuring no one is left behind on the road to sustainable transport.

This initiative directly addresses the challenge faced by the 40% of UK households without off-street parking. By leveraging our expertise in lamppost charging, we’re delivering convenient, reliable, and 100% renewable energy-powered charging solutions to residents.

Cllr Dan Barrington, Liverpool City Council Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said: “I’m delighted that we are providing even more on-street car charging for residents. This is a crucial hurdle to overcome in ensuring a just transition from fossil fuels to a net zero city.

“Not everyone has a private drive where they can install their own charging point. So, this increase in on-street chargers is a hugely significant infrastructure upgrade that will support the switch to EVs.”

Like the Liverbirds that grace its skyline, Liverpool's EV adoption is set to rise to impressive heights. Liverpool’s commitment to its 2030 net-zero target is clear. These new charge points, installed efficiently and powered by REGO-backed renewable energy, will make EV ownership accessible to more residents, particularly those in terraced housing.

char.gy's installation of 300 new charge points in Liverpool directly tackles a major barrier to EV adoption: charging accessibility. By choosing to place these points in residential areas, particularly those with terraced housing and limited off-street parking, char.gy empowers residents to confidently switch to electric vehicles. This expanded network provides the convenience and reliability necessary for every day charging (or should we say - every night - if you charge on the cheaper, greener night tariff), effectively removing the "range anxiety" that often deters potential EV owners and paving the way for a smoother, more widespread transition to EVs within the city.

Moreover, this shift to EVs will significantly improve the health of Liverpool's residents. By reducing reliance on ICE vehicles, the city will experience a decrease in harmful tailpipe emissions which are major contributos to air pollution. This will lead to improved respiratory health and a cleaner, more breathable environment for everyone in the city.

John Lewis, CEO OF char.gy, said: “We’re excited to partner with Liverpool City Council to make EV charging more accessible, especially for residents without off-street parking. Switching to an electric vehicle should be easy for everyone, no matter where they live.

“By installing charge points along residential streets, char.gy brings convenient, reliable, and affordable charging right to drivers’ doorsteps. Residents can easily charge overnight from home and take advantage of our discounted Night Tariff during off-peak hours when electricity rates are lower - just like homeowners with driveways do. By bridging this ‘driveway divide,’ we’re making EV ownership a realistic option for more people.

“We look forward to working with Liverpool City Council as they continue their journey toward a cleaner, greener Liverpool and help make sustainable transport a reality for even more residents.”
